Rochester city schools ended the school day early in response to racially motivated fighting at Charlotte High School and concerns about “year-end horseplay” at other schools. At Charlotte, Black and white students faced off for about two hours, wielding weapons and insults at each other. This was the third time the school closed early due to racial tensions that year.
