Photograph, Exchange Street swing bridge, Rochester, NY

Picture

A view of the original swing bridge that crossed the Erie Canal at Exchange Street in downtown Rochester, NY. This bridge operated from the 1870s until 1898, when it was replaced with a more modern lift bridge. The swing bridge is in the closed position and pedestrians, bicyclists, and a street car are crossing over it. Boats float in the canal, and the Fitzhugh Street Bridge can be seen in the distance. The view is to the northwest.
