Dear Kate I visited R Hoe
& Co. this morning I did not
know when I left home that
they had ordered a gear
Planer, but Mr Collins
assured me they had ordered
a 24” and Mr Meade said
they had ordered, but did
not remember the size. they
are in a hury for it I found
they have the old dificulty on
ac of the forms being low
down, but most of there
trouble comes from poor
setting. the man made a
statement that you might
plane a pair of gears appearing
to be all right too day and
the same size gears a day later
[page 2]
would often be very poor
he made the statement in
Mr Collins presence, and he
recognised at once, that it
was the operators fault. I acknowledged
however that there was a slight
defect in the machines and
explained the reason he is
quite taken with the revolving
form, and I promised to
put on the revolving chuck.
it is agreed between Mr Mead
and Mr Collins that after
testing the new machine
and it proves OK they will
send the old ones to Rochester
one at a time too be altered
over with revolveing form
holder and they were very
pleasant with me, chan cashed
my draft &c
