Document

A letter from NAWSA president, Anna Howard Shaw, to Susan B. Anthony’s former housekeeper and secretary, Anna Dann Mason. Shaw updates Mason on the status of Susan B. Anthony’s sister, Mary Stafford Anthony, who is in poor health. She reports that she has been busy with work, presumably on behalf of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), which she heads. Shaw congratulates Mason on the birth of her son and expresses her regret over the death of a “dear old friend.”
