Interview, Olman Bonilla

Olman Bonilla was born into a family of nine children in Honduras. At the age of seven, he began working on coffee plantations. He attended grammar school and middle school in rural Honduras, but longed to move to a big city where he might find greater opportunities. Bonilla moved to the United States at the age of 15, following the passing of his parents. He lived in Arizona before relocating to Rochester, New York, where he was placed with a foster family. He attended Brighton High School and graduated from Nazareth College in 2016 with a degree in International Business.

In this interview, Bonilla discusses the Honduran government and education system during his youth. He describes the challenges he faced while attempting to immigrate to the United States and the additional struggles he faced after his relocation, such as the language barrier he experienced in high school and the social differences he felt in his foster home.
