Nelly Rivera was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, in 1960 as one of thirteen children. She moved to the United States in 1966 and began working at Kodak in 1990. Her husband, Oscar (b. 1960), attended college in Puerto Rico, but found employment in Rochester at Xerox. The Riveras traveled back to Puerto Rico frequently and maintained a strong Puerto Rican heritage.

This interview largely focuses on the church that the Riveras founded in 2009, the Congregation of Yahweh. The Rivieras also describe the Rochester community and note that they have found it to be a very welcoming place.
