Jose Martinez was born in 1992 and raised in Havana, Cuba. He moved to the United States in 2008, when he was 17 years old, a few months after his mother had done so. He completed his secondary education at James Monroe High School in Rochester, New York. After graduating, he joined the National Guard and began working for Dish Network.

In this interview, Jose Martinez discusses his upbringing in Cuba, his move to the United States, and his view of how immigration is looked at in the U.S. He examines some of the differences between the U.S. and Cuba, why he joined the National Guard, and his experiences as a member of the National Guard. He also discusses his current relationship with Cuba, his view of the Puerto Rican Festival, and the local Latino community.
