Anthony Molina was born to Dominican parents in Brooklyn, New York, in 1986. He moved with his family to the Dominican Republic in 1990, but returned to New York City seven years later. Molina attended high school in Queens before enrolling at SUNY Brockport in 2006. After college, he went to work at the Oak Hill Country Club.

In this interview, Molina talks about the push/pull factors that inspired his family’s emigration, as well as the gender and occupational roles that his family members fulfilled. He also discusses his family’s rituals and celebrations. Molina describes his return to the Dominican Republic and notes the ways in which the island has changed. Lastly he addresses the topics of race and ethnicity, discussing the racial makeup of his schools in New York City, the Latino population of Rochester, and the persistence of prejudice in both cities, as well as on the campus of SUNY Brockport.
