Statement, “Important”

Important

Here is an important message from the Department of Defense,
regarding the personal safety of next of kin of U.S. Personnel
reported missing in action in Korea. In the past some unscrupu-
lous individuals, attempting to turn the grief and sorrow of
families to their own uses, have been known to extort money from
families by claiming that they have some knowledge of the relative
who is reported as missing in action. Sometimes they claim that
the relative is a prisoner of war and that they are in a position
either to get in touch with him, or to get him freed from the
prison camp, for a certain sum of money. Experience indicates that
such letters originate in other countries as well as the United
States. If you should receive any such letter or other communication
from anybody not well known to you who claims to have knowledge
about your missing relative, please notify the nearest F.B.I.
offices before doing anything else.
