Letter, Kate Gleason to James Gleason
A letter from Kate Gleason to her brother, James Gleason. Kate talks of providing money for experimentation. She also discusses giving their sister, Eleanor Gleason, all the money set aside for her by their father, William Gleason. Kate explains her effort to save face with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) over holding an annual meeting in Rochester.

Dear Jim,
I am enclosing the $100 check for my share of the
extra expense of experiment work.
I am in favor of your suggestion to give Eleanor
at once whatever sum Father meant her to have ultimately.
As it is $2500 more, I will be glad to share in paying that
rather than to ask Eleanor to set a figure as I first thought.
When the officers of the ASME ask me again about
coming to Rochester, I will tell them that I am out of town
so much that I have not enough local acquaintance and in-
fluence to make a success of a meeting. That the best I
can do is to help the Engineering section here whenever they
are ready to invite the Society. This explanation takes
the onus of the first refusal away from the Gleason Works.
Yours Truly,
Kate Gleason
