Letter, Kate Gleason to Emmett Gleason
A letter from Kate Gleason to her nephew, Emmett Gleason. Kate explains that she will not be able to see Emmett when he goes to Septmonts, France. She urges him to visit Cleary Castle in Drumalane, Ireland, and suggests he might “buy it and fix it up.” Also included is a postcard of Cumberland Square (now Emmet Square) in Ireland.

MidSummer Day.
We ought to see some Fairies in the
Castle to-night.
Dear Emmett,
We will be sailing on the 28th (of June) and
so I can’t keep a date with you in Septmonts.
But you ought to come over here and see the Cleary
Castle at Drumnalane. It is Norman about
13th or 14th century and it had a moat and
portcullis and draw bridge and everything.
You ought to buy it and fix it up.
If you decide to look at it, stop at this hotel
which is 10 miles away and drive over to
Bridget Cleary.
Drumnalane Borrisikane – Co Tipperary – Ireland.
She is the daughter of Father’s old friend Tom Cleary
and she will show you the Castle.
