Dear Kate;
Your letter and prize baby
shoe received, and on Friday night I
returned Gertrudes property with the
bonboniere candy. Saturday afternoon
I took the aforesaid young lady
down the lake rowing price .40c
We rambled through the woods along
the shore and climbed the barbed
wire fences in the good old fashioned
style. Blood paid me the $8 which
with $25 makes $33. deducting from
$25 tuition $5 for shop materials
2.24 railroad fare and some more
for sundry books paper etc dont
leave much cash on hand. Now I
[page 2]
have $5. fraternity dues and an
assessment of $3 to pay this term. Dont
let this list frighten you. This morning
Cowles Blood and myself took a constitutional
out to buttermilk creek through the
glen It is grand there even at this
time of year, so much evergreen grows
there. Before your letter was received
I saw the eternal fitness of asking
Prof Smiths’ advice on what to take
up this term. He advised me to
take some special work under Williams.
I could not take machine design
for it requires some calculus and
mechanics and kinematics He says.
I have not sprung the spring suit
on the natives as yet. Today a few
new suits came out, but I will

reserve it for the general opening.
Yours
Jim.
