Letter, James Gleason to Kate Gleason
A letter to Kate Gleason from her brother, James Gleason. Jim acknowledges a letter from Kate describing an unknown person’s problems paying for a boat. He mentions that their friend, Emma Michel, will not accompany Kate to Ithaca and tells Kate that “numberless” men will want to entertain her while she is there. Jim reports that he has been invited to a Kappa Kappa Gamma dance and asks Kate for information on bevel gears for a trip to York, Pennsylvania.

Dear Kate;
Your letter just received
telling of the one unfortunate man
who is emptying his pile into the
Modjeska. Poor fellow let us hope
he will save enough to have the
boat hauled out of the water next
fall. His $500 will make the boat
cost 1600 in the last three years.
Sorry Emma will not come here
with you. Some people are bound
to talk through their hats and I
cant see why she should mind
them. If you come alone no doubt
Snow Cowles Battin and numberless
others will fight for the honor
of entertaining you. The Kappa
Kappa Gammas have cards out for a

dance next Tuesday night, and they
appreciated the fact that it would
not be a success without me.
This is perhaps a pull I get from
you for I never called on a K.K.G.
and was much surprised to be one
of six D.U. invited.
Miss Flint gave me the invitation to the
Delta Gamma affair.
If I am to go to York Pa. will
you please send me a copy of the
card which Hunter has for getting
the angles on bevel gears. It comes
quite handy and will save me
figuring one out.
Please ask Mother to send on my cuff
buttons next time the satchel comes
back.
Yours
Jim.
