Letter, James Gleason to Kate Gleason
A letter to Kate Gleason from her brother, James Gleason. Jim acknowledges the receipt of $75 and asks Kate about her plans to visit Ithaca with their friend, Emma Michel, and which of Jim’s friends they would like to be their escorts. Jim also mentions a social occasion among fraternities, Kate’s selling a machine to an “English Lord,” and a letter from the Ide Company.

Ithaca, N.Y., Apr. 12 1890
Dear Kate,-
The draft for $75. arrived
yesterday in time to let me pay the
$45. to the University Treasurer.
Frank thinks that Mr Ide must have
written the letter to Hill Clarke & Co
about the same time he wrote here.
Do whatever you think best about
bringing Emma with you on your visit.
I am sure the boys would be most
happy to entertain you both. The only
trouble would be about her going home
alone but I suppose that would be
all right. You must give me a
private tip on who you both would
prefer asked as your escorts.
Cowles Broughton & Battin would of
course be the best to pick two from.
Frank Hamlin is at his old tricks
again trying to stir up a row is he,

I suppose Father dont anticipate
anything like the row he and McNab
kicked up during the last boom.
The Delta Gamma affair was a
success. They imported a lot of girls
to add interest to the occasion.
Florence Alt was here with the Miss
Farber you spoke of. Miss Farber
is nearly a back number, She dont
dance and she dont talk much, but
still has a large and glowing smile.
I hope you have nailed the English
Lord for the Gear Planer.
Please ask Mother to send on the satchel
and to put in my comb & hair brush
which I left in the spare room.
Yours
Jim.
