Letter, Irene Conole to James Conole
A letter from Irene to her brother James. Irene tells James about her recent activities on the base and how she is looking forward to coming home to see “little Mike.” She hopes James has a good time and wins some prizes at the anniversary party for the Rochester Recreation Club for the Deaf. She mentions that she knows a Wave whose parents are deaf and that she was sorry to have missed a group of deaf people that recently visited the base.

Dear James,
I was very glad to hear from you
and hope you are feeling fine. I’ve been a
little sick because I have a cold. I hope it’s
better in a few days.
I bet you will have a nice time at
the 9th Anniversary party of the Rochester Re –
creation Club for the Deaf. I hope you win
some prizes.
I’ll be glad to get home to see little Mike.
He is cute and he is putting some weight on.
Aunt Anna wrote me a nice letter.
Is Henry and Betty going to the party
at the club Nov. 29th?
It has been raining the last couple of
days but I hope it snows soon.
I’m still doing good in classes and I
have only two more tests to take.
Three weeks ago on a Sunday there were
some deaf people here but I didn’t see them.
I wish I had. One of the girls here has a
mother and father who are deaf.
I have been washing and ironing today
and I am a little tired.

Next week we are suppose to start to
learn how to swim. I have to learn to swim
before I leave here. They have a big pool
here and a great big gym room. We can
play basketball too.
We have a radio now in our lounge and
we always have music. All the girls are
dancing and having fun.
I can’t think of anything else to say
for nothing much has happened.
When you get a chance drop me a
line and take care of yourself.
Love
Irene
