Letter, Irene Conole to her parents
A letter from Irene Conole to her parents. Irene reports that nothing unusual has happened on base. Henry has written her a letter about his trip to the Thousand Islands and the secretary of the Telephone Pioneers in Baltimore wrote to her because she used to work for the Rochester Telephone Company. Irene asks for Nellie’s new address and is surprised that Mike Burke got married. Calvin Cress insists on letting Irene borrow his car.

27 August 1953
Dear Mom & Dad,
Everything is about the same
here. Nothing unusual has happened.
Received a letter from Henry and
he gave me a blow by blow description of
his trip to the Thousand Islands. He sent
me the colored pictures and they turned
out terrific. The white uniform really
showed up.
I was outside the gate today and
stopped in the department store. I saw
a pretty snow suit so I’m thinking of
getting Mike one for Xmas.
Received another letter from the
Secretary of the Telephone Pioneers in
Baltimore. She wrote that she is an
old maid and loves to receive letters.
It looks like we will be corresponding.
She sent me the Pioneers books and it
was very interesting. I told her that
I was planning on visiting her and she
is looking forward to it.

Tell Nellie that I wish her a lot of
luck in her new job. When she leaves
and writes home of her new address, see
if you can get it, for if ever I should
happen to be down that way. I’ll drop
in to see her.
Can you help me out on what to
get Aunt Anna for Xmas? I was wondering
if she needed a new purse.
It seems funny for Mike Burke to
be married. Never thought he would.
Did Mrs. Stowell say anything about me?
I didn’t get to see her when I was home
and I haven’t written to her yet. If I
make it home in October for a weekend
I’ll stop up and see her. I think Charlie
Burke is the best of the boys. From your
description of the wedding cake, it sounded
very pretty.
Is Sister teaching at Sacred Heart
school in Rochester? If so, I can see
her then next year.
Anything new with Aunt Mayme?
Probably Aunt Anna will tell you
about Calvin Cress. He loaned me his

car quite a bit while she was here and
he still does. We are as different as
night and day. He is from North Carolina
and a nice guy. I have never asked Cal
for his car. He is always offering it
and it is a ’52 four door Pontiac.
Can’t think of anything else now.
Am going to answer Henry’s letter now.
How are the Giralies’s? Give my love
to James. Bye for now,
Love and Kisses
Irene
P.S. I don’t remember if I mentioned
about the suit. It turned out
beautifully. You can give Bob my
thanks.
