Letter, Irene Conole to her parents
A letter from Irene Conole to her parents. Irene confirms that she has received a package from home. She sends money for her parents to put in her bank account and updates her family on some of her friends. She tells about meeting a disc jockey who played a song for her on the radio and reports that she has been put in charge at the Enlisted Men’s Club.

Dear Mom & Dad,
Got the funny books and belt. We
all thank you especially the fellow MAA
who works with me at the club for he
loves those weird funny books.
The dollar is to add on to the $49 that
I am getting so that it will make $50.
Boy I didn’t expect that much and
it comes in handy. We had only one
pay day this month but we get three
next month and this last pay went
practically for shampoo etc, stamps and
writing paper, cards and some clothes
for the summer.
I received three pairs of stockings
from the sunshine club and I have
sent them a thank you card.
Find out when Theresa graduates
from high school. I would like to see
her.
Sheilah Quigley wrote and everything
is going fine with her.
I met a fellow who looks something

2. like Eileen Mc Intyre’s husband,
Jack Bishop. He’s from Montana, be
28 in October and slightly shy of women.
Boy that is unusual for a sailor.
So Mrs. Morris was mad! They should
notify the kids when they are coming
up for they aren’t going to be staying
home every Sunday.
Aunt Anna wrote me of Dicky Fuller.
Last Saturday I had a song played
for me on the radio. I had just been
introduced to this sailor this past
week who is a disc jockey on week –
ends, and he knows that I like
the song Ramona by the Gaylords
so he said that he would play it
for me. I told him to play it at 2:05pm
for I was going to take a nap at
2:30 pm. So at 2:15 he says that he
is playing the next record for a
friend of his and that it is 2:15 instead
of 2:05 p. I saw him that same night
in the show. He said that he was
tempted to say, after the record was
finished, now have a nice nap.
You’ll have to excuse the mistakes
for this girl in my cubicle just got
back off of eleven days leave and she

3. is telling me all about it while I
am writing this. She is a character and
fore a Southerner she talks as fast as
Mrs. Burke.
My boss put me in charge of the club.
Am leading MAA and what I say goes. When
he is away I take over. Tomorrow all of
us connected with the club are having
a picture taken. I believe it’s a group
picture and will be put in the Tester
which is the station paper. If so, I will
send one home to you.
Last night met a Rochester boy who
lives on Lake Ave near Judges. I remembered
seeing him around and we compared
notes. Practically everyone stationed
here is from N.Y.S. or Pa.
Can’t think of anything more so
will say bye for now. Tell James hello.
Love and Kisses
Irene
