Article, “CD Names New County Chief of Aircraft Warning Service”

A newspaper account describing Robert Abbott’s expansion of the Monroe County Office of Civil Defense. According to this August 1954 report in the Rochester Times-Union, Abbott hired Herbert Wickenden as chief of the county’s aircraft warning service. Abbott also oversaw the erection of aircraft observation posts to detect potentially hostile planes.
