This issue of The Voice features an article about a memorial service for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. held by the Rochester chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and efforts of that group to make King’s birthday, January 15, a national holiday. Another article discusses how Rochester’s City Council directed the mayor to declare January 15 “Martin Luther King Day.” A third article, which continues into the following issue, examines the history of the employment of Black workers in Rochester.
