Dear Louise & Dannie
Aunt Mary wrote me, last Saturday
how sadly Louise’s school & drawing
lessons were broken into last week
by her severe cold – it was too bad –
and then she wrote also how she
went to Dancing School with Dannie
and how nicely he went through all
the polite motions – How much
like a gentlemen you will feel Dannie,
When you learn how to do all those
things – I am very glad Aunt Mary
decided to let you both learn to “trip the
light fantastic toe” this winter – and she
wrote me too, how much better Grand Ma is – all
of which comforted me ever so much –
Now, Dannie when is that promised
[page 2]
letter to Aunt Susan coming – I hope it
is getting written this very Saturday – or will
be surely, tomorrow – Tell me all about the
nice boys you have got acquainted with
and which you think the best –
– I hope My Nephew Dannie will
be the best of the very best of them –
– Louise, you must be more careful
about taking more terrible colds! – are you
sitting too close to a stove again – With an
open window blowing down on the top of
your head – ? – If you have to recite in a cold
room – always put on a shawl & cape –
– does Dannie get any more colds – ? – I wish
I could look in upon you at No. 7. this very
minute & see how you all are doing – We must
all of us try our best never to do a thing but
what we shall be glad of after it is done – &
be perfectly willing to have everybody know we
did it. If we always just stop a minute & think
about what we a going to do, we shall be saved
from wrong or foolish things – Now both of you
write to Aunt Susan & just run on & tell all
about everybody & everything – Mary Dobbin must write.
She always tells lots of news – & that is what one likes
when so far away from all one loves – affectionately
Your Aunt Susan B.
