A letter from Major H.V. Hawes of the Army Effects Bureau to Winona Abbott, inquiring whether she would accept her husband, Robert Abbott’s, personal property. Robert Abbott had been declared “Missing in Action” in Korea and his belongings needed to be placed in a relative’s safekeeping.

Dear Mrs. Abbott:

The Army Effects Bureau has received from overseas some
personal property belonging to your husband, Major Robert N. Abbott.

Inasmuch as our records indicate that he is Missing in Action,
it is our desire that some close relative receive this property for
safekeeping, pending final determination of his status. If you will
confirm the accuracy of the above address and state your willingness
to safely keep his effects as gratuitous bailee, they will be for-
warded to you.

Your reply may be made on the reverse of this letter, if
you desire, and mailed in the inclosed self-addressed envelope which
requires no postage.
