Marilu Segura was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, in 1986. At the age of seven, her parents relocated her family to the United States in order to provide their children with better educational opportunities. She also talks about her children and expresses that she wants them to embrace both the Mexican and American traditions that make up their heritage. Segura mentions that she wants her children to follow her in her Catholic faith and briefly discusses the opportunities she wants for them as they grow up.
