Geena Cruz was born in 1970 and raised in Rochester, NY, by Puerto Rican parents. Her parents came to the area from Puerto Rico independently and met while living in Rochester. Cruz used to work in the Rochester Department of Human Services. She currently works as a consultant for the Willow Domestic Violence Center.

In this interview, Cruz discusses the values her parents instilled in her from a young age, her volunteer work in the local community, and visiting Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in order to bring supplies. She explains her relationship with the Spanish language, her family history, and her work with the Willow Domestic Violence Center. She also discusses her identity as a Puerto Rican and a member of the broader Hispanic community.
